California's "No Drugs Down the Drain" Week

California's "No Drugs Down the Drain" Week

How do you get rid of your unwanted and expired meds? Hopefully we're preaching to the choir here -- but the state of California is reminding its residents that drugs shouldn't go down the drain.

Remember: Dump your pharmaceuticals in the toilet, and there's a chance that traces of them will end up in someone else's drinking water.

California's "No Drugs Down the Drain" Week runs Oct. 4 - 11. As part of the statewide campaign, local agencies are reminding residents of safe ways to dispose of their medications.

Here's an informative FAQ from the campaign. If you live in California, you can also go to the site's main page, type in your zip code, and find out where in your neighborhood to safely dispose of your drugs. We have three locations within 1.5 miles of our zip code!

For people outside of California, we recommend contacting your local pharmacy to see if they have a drug take-back program.
